– The Story Behind PicDay

Tony

Founder

Hi, I’m Tony Blood, the founder of PicDay. If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m passionate about people, photography, and making a difference.

I started PicDay because I’ve been where you are. As a coach, committee member, and club chairman, I know the constant struggle for funding and how time-consuming it can be to organise fundraisers. I also know that traditional team photos can be dull, awkward, and usually end up shoved in a drawer. I wanted to change that.

PicDay gives clubs and schools free photoshoots with no admin hassle, and a simple way to raise money, all while capturing vibrant, personality-filled photos that parents actually want to buy.

From the RAF to a Love of Sports & Creativity

I spent seven years in the Royal Air Force, including serving in Iraq during the Second Gulf War.

Life in the military teaches you a lot – discipline, teamwork, and the drive to push limits. It also sparked my love of sports, leading me to compete for a place on the RAF skeleton bobsleigh team, where I made it to the final 10.
But while I loved the physical and mental challenge, I’ve always been drawn to creativity. I started with drawing and digital art, then got my hands on early versions of Photoshop, experimenting with digital design.
When I discovered green screen technology, it was a game-changer! I could blend creativity with photography to create something truly unique. That’s when my passion for capturing people, personalities, and moments really took off.

Grassroots Coaching & Understanding the Need for Funding

My love of sports led me to coach grassroots football, and before I knew it, I was on the club committee and then became chairman. Over the years, I saw firsthand how much time, effort, and money it takes to keep a club running.

Funding was always an issue. Kit, equipment, facilities – it all adds up. I knew clubs needed easy ways to raise money without adding more work to already busy volunteers.

At the same time, I saw the same old stiff, awkward team photos being churned out, and parents buying them out of guilt rather than love. That’s when it clicked – why not combine my passion for photography with a way to help clubs raise money?

Why PicDay?

I designed PicDay to be hassle-free for clubs, fun for kids, and valuable for parents.

My son Ashton was born with a cleft lip & palate and was later diagnosed with a rare condition, 18q deletion syndrome. The support we received from small, lesser-known charities was life-changing, so I made it my mission to give back – organising charity balls, endurance races, and fundraising events to help others in similar situations.

I once cycled 147 miles in one day to raise money for my cousin’s son, who was battling a rare form of bone cancer.
I became a bone marrow donor to an 8-year-old boy in need – he’s now 24, engaged, and we’re still friends today.
I’ve always had a soft spot for rescue animals, especially those that need a second chance – my dog has a deformed front paw, and my cat was found abandoned in a shed.

A Passion for Giving Back

Beyond sports and photography, helping others is just part of who I am.

Beyond Photography

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me:

In the gym

(so I can eat more food - priorities, right?)

On a ski slope

(New Zealand was my favorite so far!)

Defending pineapple on pizza

(it belongs there, and I will die on this hill)

Telling the story of how I’m related to Thomas Blood,

the only man in history to steal the Crown Jewels!
